Removing Negative Listings From Google

You sit down at your computer and do a search on Google for yourself, or your company name and to your surprise you find negative results coming up right at the top. While this may sound like a nightmare for some it is becoming reality for more and more people and companies. Whether the postings are from an inaccurate new report, a malicious ex-employee, or one of your less scrupulous competitors the bottom line is you need help, and fast.

When you need to remove a listing from Google the first thing you need to understand is how Google ranks websites. There are basically two main factors that Google looks at, relevancy, and popularity. Relevancy has to do with the content of your site, and how relevant it is to the search word. Popularity, or Page Rank, is a measure of the importance of a web page by looking at how many other sites link to that page, and the structure of those links. The idea is that everyone wants to keep visitors on their site, so if someone is willing to send their visitors to another site they must have good content that will benefit Google's users.

So, now that we understand what Google looks for in ranking web sites, we need to give it to them. This is a two step process. First, we create new content that is very relevant to the search term were working on. This content should be a mix of company profile pages, news, and blog posts mentioning the company. Once we've developed this content, we need to boost it's popularity so we can displace the negative listings. To do this we find third party web sites that are willing to link to these pages with the actual search term we're targeting as the text of the link. To Google this is the equivalent of a road sign saying "find relevant info for this keyword here".

When these campaigns are properly executed you'll see a big jump in results in the first month as all the content is indexed. Once we reach this stage the results will gradually improve as the link building efforts start showing their effect. In most cases negative results can be removed from the first page in 2-3 months, while in some situations it can take longer.
